I've heard the red fox calls at night, & we have a red fox that made our yard part of his/her routine for a while, have not seen him/her lately... she never seemed to be in a hurry when passing through our backyard, in fact it almost seemed like she knew we were watching her - he/she would look straight at us, as if to say, "go ahead, get a good look".Allysonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14255330493156396836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1119844997664774587.post-30728193412524459252011-02-26T16:05:57.960-05:002011-02-26T16:05:57.960-05:00Another wonderful photo essay. You are something e...Another wonderful photo essay. You are something else, getting theseterrific photos. I'm wondering if what I have over here is a gray fox.I see his tracks almost every morning, but have not seen him yet, thoughI look out whenever I'm up at night. For one thing, he seems to dig upthe old apples under the apple trees, and you said grays eat more fruitthan reds? I don't see how he makes a living out there with all thesnow. I have a field full of varmints but they are under so much snowand such a thick hard crust. I saw a vole this morning running along bythe fence to the barn. This vole lives under the el and he gets up intothe el and makes holes in my bag of bird seed. Where is the fox when Ineed him? Last summer when a fox ate our guinea hen we were out that night and itmade a noise from the woods that was strange and bone chilling. Kind oflike the sound an angry cat makes--I can't describe it but I can do it.It's not a yip or anything like that, but a throaty HAAAAA made high inthe throat. We found it recorded on the web. He was around for a fewdays looking for more guineas and he would poke his head up from thelong grass and stare at me for a long time before loping off into thewoods. I never had my camera with me at the right time, unlike you.Jonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1119844997664774587.post-81199390400883288402011-02-26T15:45:06.182-05:002011-02-26T15:45:06.182-05:00Thank you, Mike B.
