The kingfisher is a tough bird to get close to, to photograph when perched, then to get it in flight! - also, I was very interested in your crossbill at the feeder - I've heard a few reports of this bird at feeders. You provide solid evidence!
Mike and Chris, thank you. I have tried and tried to get this bird in flight and so was DELIGHTED to get these shots. As Chris says, Kingfishers are hard to approach.
Another coup for RRR.Beautiful bird,I didn't know they had rust or red under their wing.We have not seen the crossbill since our first glimpse while you were away.Maybe he'll come back.
MaineBirder, Karen, Debbie and Hilke, thanks so much for the positive regard for the shots. I'm pretty tickled with them myself! It feels soooo good when it goes my way once in awhile. YA!
I had no idea they have brown under their wings either and I have been trying to look at them most of my life. Sometime I'll take you up the river in my boat and see if we can get some more. I think these pictures probably repersent far more patience than I have.
Great pics...thank you! Saw many birds in flight at Hermit Island a fewdays ago at dusk...lots of song in the air as well. They tend to hangaround the thicket on the left towards Joe's Head...very swampy! Dawnelle
Larry, thank you for the Id fine tuning. I was just about to look that up and put it on the photos, too. You saved me a wander through my birding guides. And thank you for the compliment, too.
Thanks Jackie and Dawnelle. And, Dawnelle, I know that spot well over on Hermit Island. I find that the birds do like that swampy thicket stuff no matter where it is. The sparrows are chortling away here which is delightful to hear since it's only 19 degrees this morning.
Jim, thank you. Indeed a VERY challenging bird to capture in flight or even perched for long enough and close enough for good shots. Thanks for the look and comment.
Glorious images! Soaring beauty! I've never been able to get a good photograph of a Belted Kingfisher, even when stationary. Fabulous in flight captures!
Julie, Thank you very much. Next, I'm hoping to get shots of a Belted kingfisher flying through a hoop of flames. After all, where does one go after getting images like these flight shots? Cirque de Soleil!
stunning shots of the kingfisher in flight. I visited Costa Rica a month ago and saw this bird. But of course I had too little time to get godo shots or it. :)
Bill, Springman, Pat and Fotokarusellen, thanks so much for the thumbs ups on this one. That you all look and comment keeps me moving to get better, more interesting, more SOMETHING images.
Incredible and I'm seriously jealous ;>) have tried for years and in several different states to get a picture of a Kingfisher. Never any luck. They are such a unique looking bird and I love to watch them. Thanks for sharing yours.
Incredible! Great shots.
