Note: For those of you who may have been wondering where I am, I've been working on a project and Weeding For Dollars as 'tis the season. In the mean time, our dog took a face full of porcupine quills which has really fouled up my time lines. Thus, a FLYday that is on Sunday. I do know it's Sunday and have not totally lost my mind, yet. I'll be back, never fear!

ReplyDeleteI've been out of the loop, too, for what seems like several weeks. No good excuses for me, though! Great shot of the kestrel! Haven't seen one yet. Have been in Maine for 2 weeks now. It's warbler heaven, though! ~karen
ReplyDeleteGary, yes, our stupid old dog has done this four times now. And this time he was in the yard, not off in the woods! I'll be writing a blog about it before long, because it's all too gruesome to not share. :) You'll have to read the story aloud to Boom as a cautionary tale. Thanks for the look and compliment.
ReplyDeleteKaren, thanks! And, yes, for what little birding i've been able to do of late the warblers are delicous!What you can't see you can definitely hear their multiple species of songs in the trees.

ReplyDeleteWow, what a beauty, Robin! I've never seen a kestrel. Its head looks so roundish and un-hawkish compared to the red-tailed hawks. (Porcupine quills...ouch! Hope your dog is feeling better...)

John Tucker and clay ball, thanks for the views and compliments. This little raptor is the most colorful of all the hawks. Most of them have subdued plummage. This is our smallest hawk, so you've got to admire the sort of nerve of the flashy outfit!

ReplyDeleteMainebirder, thank you. He appears to be okay, though sadly, they never learn. It's the fourth time he's done it. I always take him to the vet, but since it was 7PM we had to deal with it. What a mess!

Indelible, Thanks for the compliment and well wishes for the dog. I sort of akin that to sending flowers to someone who is feeling poorly after drinking too much. You can't help but feel badly for anyone in pain, but when they have brought it on themselves........

ReplyDeleteWonderful shot, Robin. Never realized the kestrel has so many colors! Sorry for your dog! At least you didn't have to spend you Weeding for Dollars on a vet bill. Maybe this time the dog will remember, since you pulling out the quills was probably more painful than the vet doing it.
