Dromore Bay, Phippsburg, Maine October 2011
Dromore Bay is tidal. It is near the mouth of the Kennebec River on the west side. The salt marsh provides important habitat for birds and other wildlife. Waterfowl are abundant. Raptors which hunt other birds and small mammals cruise the marsh grasses looking for prey. Osprey fish here. Animals that eat mollusks and crustaceans frequent the marsh. White-tailed deer, raccoons, mink, fishers and foxes are abundant.
This photo has that ethereal feel to it. This is my favorite kind of habitat. I can just imagine the willets popping their heads up out of the grasses.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place Robin. It looks like a great place to birds. Beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!! Except for the salt part It looks like here. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

Very nice picture!
ReplyDeletekaholly, Thank you. I haven't seen Willets there, though I'm sure ther have been. I'm going to put my kayak in next spring from the south of where I took this image. I'll let you know what I turn up.
ReplyDeleteeileen, Gary, Shutterburg, and greenheron, thank you all. It is a very beautiful place, and one which most of us travel by every day without notice. I have taken lots of photos there. I have a large print on my dining room wall. Often, people visit who ask where I took the shot, though they pass by it every time they come into or leave town.
ReplyDeleteHowdee you!~ Super photo!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a beautiful shot! Love the colors and the mist.
ReplyDeleteLovely image Robin, it has a beautiful ambiance. There sure is a lot going on here though, quite a hectic eco system happening!
ReplyDeleteDawn, Mama and Perth, thank you. I have been working this year to capture images of habitat. It is harder to capture habitat images that are interesting and moving than it is get a little bird to sit on my finger, believe it or not! So, I'm thrilled that apparently I have been successful with this.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice photo. I was in the Buckfield, Maine area not long ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andy. Buckfield has some very pretty sort of farm country. Nice area.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful picture with different textures and colors treating the sight. Thanks for sharing.♥R
