FLYday - Spotted Sandpiper

Spotted Sandpiper in flight, Phippsburg Maine October
These birds are very fast fliers and are difficult to photograph in flight.

FLYday is an homage to what our feathered friends do best, fly.

  5. Barbara and AnnieO, thanks to both of you. It takes a tremendous amount of practice to the point of obsession to be able to weild an 8 pound camera rig to get a shot like this. So, thanks for recognizing that it's not in vain!

  6. Jali and M.C., thank you both very much! I was in a tin boat when I took this shot, which made it even more challenging to get a crisp shot (movment, vibration, etc.). These birds are also called 'peeps.' No, not the yellow marshmallow type, but because they go 'PEEP! PEEP!PEEP! as they fly on a zig zag pattern.

  8. Wonderful shot Robin, not only to catch him, but to catch him showing off the intricate patterns on the inside of his wings, and all while standing in a tin boat, that's pretty darn amazing, well done indeed!

  10. AtHome and Perth, thank you both very much for the views and comments. I only wish that the perfection could just once be mine! But then, how do you suppose the bird would do with a camera shooting from on the wing down to me in a boat? Would it get a crisp image? Huh, huh? Would it???

  11. Betty, thank you very much! As you know, it's not so easy to get the feel of all that mass of color in one shot, so thanks for feeling the mood.
