I took these shots yesterday, July 12th at the Winnegance aerie. Butchie and his other brother Butchie, are much bigger since my last update. They are big enough that it's getting very cramped in the nest. Some wing stretching is going on, but not much. It was also eighty degrees and humid, so that may have accounted for some of their obtunded behaviors. They were panting from the heat and yawning. They are major poop machines, as you can see from the sides of the nest and the branches. There are great swarms of flies up there. I'm hoping to see them start trying to fly.
Great shots but,why 2 Butchies? How about Butchie and Moxie? How old are they now? Love to see the photos.

How do we know the Butchie boys are really BOYS; do you see something in that 400 mm lens I'm missing???
ReplyDeleteSomething I love about this format for writing is that I get immediate responses and it provokes discussion. I don't know if Butchie nor Butchie are male or female. It would take a much better birder than I am to distinguish gender at the ages of these birds. If there is such a birder out there, I hope they'll throw in their hat on an opinion and some edification. As to age, they are about 7 weeks old, maybe another week older. I did not see the day they hatched as they are too high up to look into the nest. And why 'Butchie and Butchie?' Because eagles can be like that. Ask Bob Newhart.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Tell Ron to ease up. I like the Butchie Boys (as in the Bobbsy twins. Good shots, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Flighty. I can always depend on you for support.
ReplyDeleteObtunded, eh? Showoff. I love it when you talk smart. r
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WONDERFUL STORIES AND PICTURES
ReplyDeleteHey there ....like your captions.. to darn funny...lol!! Bitchie..Butchie who cares ...you have got great pics of them!! ; }
ReplyDeleteEnjoy and admire your pictures. DO you enhance them with a photo program? Your colors seem to be richer and brighter than mine. Marie
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marie. I do some minor enhancements as one would do in a darkroom as part of basic photo development. That includes cropping and sometimes, saturation and sharpening, but not always. I work really hard to take good quality images to start with. Thanks for noticing!
ReplyDeleteWOW! You better be careful once these tough guys take wing! They probably already have a plan on how they are going to capture the "Bathrobe Photographer"! Take heed!

Yes indeed, either my hair or the terry looping would be easy enough to snag. They'd carry me off like the eagle with the golden fleece!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, thanks for sharing! You obviously have an awesome camera!
